William Moffett, lirst child of Henry and Jane Simpson Moffett, was born at Lislea, Lisnadill, Co. Armagh, Ireland. Went to America in 1785. Was a merchant and disbursing agent for United States Government near Rogersville, Hawkins Co., Tenn. He was a man of influence and means; was disbursing agent of the United States Government Troops stationed in East Tennessee from 1799 to 1802. One of his descendants, viz. John Thomas Moffett at Knoxville, Tenn., has two Bills of Exchange for money paid to William to reimburse him for money paid United States troops in East Tennessee.
